German Shepard are very couragous dogs that would risk their lives to protect their owner or even tries to attempt accomplishment, such as this factual story by Joanne Mattern "Aron the ultimate sacrifice" - Police dogs are often exposed of danger as they work to keep our communities safe. Sometimes these dogs pay their dedication with their lives. That's what happened to Aron, a K-9 partner who was a member of the
Nashville, Tennessee, police department.
On May 14, 1998, Officer Terry Burnett and his K-9 partner, Aron, recieved an urgent call. A man carrying a gun had just robbed a bank. when police arrived on the scene, the gunman fled into the woods. Officer Burnett and Aron followed him.
Aron used his sharp sense of smell to track the rovber. It did not take long for the dog to find the man. When Aron cornered him, the robber opned fire with two semiautomatic handguns. Officer Burnett was struck by the foot. Right away Aron rushed to stand the gunman and the owner to protect Burnett from beinginjured again. Later on, the gunman open fire and shot Aron several times as other officer came in time to pull Burnett to saftey.
Aron was surely injured but he still laid on top of officer Burnett while they were brought to the hospital. Officer Burnett did not want to go to the hospital right away he sticked with Aron but the dog died from the injuries. Five days after the shooting, they had Aron a funeral, he was remembered as a dog who "acted without fear and protected its handler in the most noble fashion."
